 A surprisingly large city with accommodation to suit most people, lodging in Ghent comes in the form of hotels, guesthouses, B&Bs, hostels and camping sites. There are even extremely cheap rooms available within Ghent's university colleges during the summer months, from the middle of July until the very end of September.
If you are planning to stay in Ghent on a budget and find that the hotels are just a little too expensive for your pocket, then consider the cheap accommodation provided by the De Draecke youth hostel, on the St. Widostraat, which is housed in a renovated warehouse next to the canal. Backpackers may also like to consider camping at the Blaarmeersen Campsite, which is to be found on the westerly outskirts of Ghent and off the Zuiderlaan, linked by regular buses from St. Pietersstation.

If you prefer guesthouses and B&Bs to hotels and have not yet booked, then consider visiting the organisation of the Gilde der Gentse Gastenkamers (GGG) on the Tentoonstellingslaan. This helpful guild promotes this type of accommodation and publishes a useful guide book to the guesthouses around Ghent, which is completely free of charge.
If you prefer the comfort of hotels when visiting Ghent, then there is much to choose from, with the cheapest options being quite reasonable, such as the Hotel Flandria on the Barrestraat. Spend a little more money and not only the accommodation will improve, but also the views. The Cours St. Georges overlooks the town hall on the Botemarkt, and is actually one of the oldest hotels in Ghent.
For something quite different and extremely memorable, the Boatel is a floating hotel. This large and thoroughly renovated canal boat is moored on the Leie River and is just a very short walk from Ghent city centre.
